It exists many funny and useless rules & laws everywhere; from most of them, they are old ones but are still supposed to be respected. In many ways, New Orleans is very different from others cities in the United States, and is maybe the least american of them. But speaking of futile and curious rules, the Crescent city may compete.

Did you know for example, that "You may not tie an alligator to a fire hydrant" ? And that, similarly, "Horses may not be tied to a tree on a public highway" !

Since New Orleans is the place to be for Mardi Gras, here is one of the laws completly not followed by people : )

"Throwing prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to throw, cast, or propel any substance from any aperture, window, door, staircase, balcony, or roof that is eight or more feet above street level onto any public place, way, street, sidewalk, neutral ground or highway within the city." [Sec. 54-413. Code 1956, § 42-80.1]
