Po-boy or Poor Boy

Po-Boy or Poor Boy is the name of a very popular New Orleans sandwich. The most remarkable trait of this sandwich is the bread in which is made, the French Bread.

This kind of sandwich really represents New Orleans culture and has a very interesting history. Although it has quite a number of versions regarding the origin of Po-Boy, the most accepted is the one that tells the sandwich was invented by two brothers, Clovis and Bejamin Martin, former streetcar drivers back in the 1920s.

So, after loosing the streetcar drivers job, with the 1929 crisis, the two brothers invented a really cheap sandwich to serve to the unemployed workers. And every time a worker came to get one of those sandwich,  they would scream to the kitchen "here comes another poor boy", which gave the name to the sandwich.

Besides being a fan of the sandwich, for me Poor boy is also the brand of the bread I eat every single morning!
